Prepare an iPhone for trade-in, resale, or handoff.
Before you sell or trade a device, protect the data, confirm backups, remove accounts, document condition, and avoid handing over a phone that still exposes private information.
Goal
Leave with a clean device, a safer handoff, and confidence that your photos, messages, contacts, and accounts are not being left behind.

Back up first
Confirm iCloud or computer backup before erasing anything.

Check photos and messages
Make sure the items you care about exist somewhere other than the phone.

Sign out properly
Remove Apple ID, Find My, payment cards, and personal accounts before handoff.

Erase only when ready
Use the official erase process after backup and account checks are complete.

Document condition
Photograph the screen, back, camera, ports, battery health, and any visible damage.
