Data Protection
Back up your iPhone before repair, replacement, trade-in, or travel.
A cracked screen or weak battery is frustrating. Losing photos, messages, contacts, and account access is worse. Use this guide before handing over a device or wiping it.
Backup checklist
- Confirm iCloud Backup status.
- Check iCloud Photos and local photo storage.
- Make sure you know your Apple ID email and trusted phone number.
- Save two-factor access before changing devices.
- Do not erase a phone until you know your data exists elsewhere.
Before screen repair
Back up if the screen is getting worse, touch is failing, or Face ID/camera damage is possible.
Before battery replacement
Back up before service, especially if the phone shuts down randomly, overheats, or has swelling symptoms.
Before water-damage inspection
Do not charge a wet phone. Protect data first and use qualified service for physical inspection.
